CLEVELAND — Special teams. Special plays. Special players.
That was the theme in the Cowboys season opener against the Cleveland Browns.
Dallas could have made a special teams splash at the end of the first half via a 71-yard Brandon Aubrey field goal (Mike decided for the Hail Mary ... boooo), but TCU alum KaVontae Turpin delivered a frog splash on special teams to open the second half.
The return specialist scored the first punt return touchdown of his NFL career after Dallas stopped the Browns on their opening drive.
Turpin found a lane on the right sideline and scooted 60 yards for the score. Turpin's touchdown extended Dallas' lead to 27-3.
Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy said postgame that Turpin is "the best finisher with the ball in open space" that he's ever seen.
The Dallas Cowboys signed KaVontae Turpin following his breakout season in the 2022 USFL spring football league, where he earned league MVP honors as an offensive weapon and return specialist.
Dallas went on to defeat the Cleveland Browns in Week 1, 33-17.
