FRISCO, Texas — A day before Rashaan Evans' release from the Dallas Cowboys, the linebacker was arrested Tuesday by the Frisco Police Department.
He is charged with possession of marijuana, according to the arrest report obtained by WFAA.
On Dec. 27 around 10:45 p.m., police say an officer was patrolling the parking garages near The Star in Frisco and picked up an "odor of burnt marijuana" spewing from a Ram pickup truck.
When the officer circled back around and exited his car, he saw Evans quickly turn off the vehicle, hop out, and walk in the opposite direction.
The officer approached Evans and asked if he had just smoked inside the vehicle, and how much marijuana was inside. Evans responded there was "just a nugget," the report says.
When officers searched his vehicle they found a small black ashtray with burnt marijuana residue, marijuana roaches, rolling papers, and three vacuum-sealable baggies of marijuana.
The report says the baggies weighed 2.240 ounces.
Evans - the former first-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft - joined the Cowboys in October. The 28-year-old played in nine games this season for Dallas.
It's unclear if the Cowboys waived him specifically because of the arrest, but Evans was released by the team on Wednesday morning.
This is a developing story and WFAA will update once we receive more information.
