DALLAS — Las Vegas Raiders receiver Davante Adams appears destined for a trade. NFL insiders, including Ian Rapoport, broke the news Tuesday that Adams is requesting a trade.
And like seemingly every other high-profile player on the move, Adams was linked to the Dallas Cowboys (among several other teams) by social media speculators.
Is there any validity to it? Not really – at least that we know of.
But The Athletic's Dianna Russini reported Wednesday morning that the Cowboys and New York Jets "are among the many teams monitoring the Davante Adams situation."
"Both have checked in with the Raiders," Russini tweeted. "I'm told at this point that Vegas is in no rush to make a move until a team reaches their asking price – but Adams wants out ASAP."
The New Orleans Saints have also been linked to Adams. The Saints and Jets make the most sense, as Adams has played with both of their quarterbacks, Derek Carr and Aaron Rodgers, respectively.
On the other hand, local Cowboys beat writer Clarence Hill, of All-City's DLLS, reports the Cowboys "have shown no interest in trading" for Adams.
The Cowboys have played this game before. Remember the reported flirting between Dallas and Odell Beckham Jr. a couple years ago? It seemingly lasted weeks, only for Beckham to sign with the Rams.
In any case, it's not clear what the Cowboys would have to give up for Adams, or how the money would shake out, and the latter certainly feels like a longshot.
The Raiders had to give up a first- and second-round pick to the Packers for Adams back in 2022. He's 31 now (and turning 32 this season) but he's still among the top receivers in the league.
Then, there's the money side of things. Adams has a cap hit of $25.35 million this year, according to Spotrac, and he's under contract the next two seasons for cap hits of $44.1 million each year.
The Cowboys just gave out large contracts to CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott. And while they could use some help behind Lamb in the receiving corps, Jerry Jones hasn't seemed to want to overspend on players outside of the franchise.
