OXNARD, Calif. — Pressure makes diamonds, so goes the saying.
Mike McCarthy, like Dallas' QB1, is entering the final season of his contract. Speculation has swirled whether or not McCarthy is on the hot seat in the final year of his deal. Jerry Jones said this offseason McCarthy would return for the 2024 season, but neither Jones nor McCarthy would comment on a potential extension. ESPN published an article in April that pointed to a potential marriage between Dallas and Bill Belichick.
McCarthy was asked Tuesday at Dallas Cowboys training camp if he or the coaching staff feel any pressure headed into the 2024 season, and if so, does said pressure bring out the best in them.
McCarthy expressed confidence and gratitude for his coaching staff and the players in the locker room.
"Our coaching staff is already made of diamonds," McCarthy responded. "So, we're already there. Those conversations, frankly for us, were really back in February. But once you make the commitment, you understand the opportunity. The coaching staff is having fun. We love coaching these guys. It's a great locker room to work with."
"It's a privilege to play and coach in this league," McCarthy continued. "Trust me, none of us ever lose sight of that. And we really want to make the best of this opportunity in front of us."
Dallas opens its season against the Cleveland Browns on Sept. 8.
