OXNARD, Calif. — Cowboys second-year linebacker Demarvion Overshown showed a lot of promise in his rookie Cowboys camp last year.

The Tyler, Texas native and University of Texas grad was the first defensive Longhorn drafted under Jerry Jones. And, through his first couple months with the Cowboys, he made good on that selection.

However, he wasn’t able to capitalize on the early promise he showed. On Aug. 19, 2023, Overshown suffered an ACL tear during Dallas’ preseason game against Seattle, forcing him to miss his entire rookie season.

Almost 365 days after that incident, Overshown is back -- and better.

Halfway through Cowboys Camp number two, Overshown has shown even more promise heading into this season.

“He goes everywhere fast. He’s got a great motor," Head Coach Mike McCarthy said at training camp in Oxnard, California. "He’s someone we’re all excited about and [he] can have an impact for us on defense."

He is still being “ramped up” as they work him back from the first significant injury in his playing career. “I've never gone that long without playing a snap of football, since I knew what football was”, said Overshown.

For Cowboys games that he couldn’t attend in person, he would spend watching on his couch.

“Cowboys helmet on," Overshown said. "Locked in. Even when I wasn’t there, I was there."

Talking to him in Oxnard, Overshown says he’s “ready for that day to come” when he gets to play his first snap of regular season football.

Based on what we’ve seen out of him so far in camp, and how much the coaches have raved about him, Cowboys fans should be looking forward to that day too.
