DALLAS — Dak Prescott might be the most polarizing player in the NFL, at least from an on-field standpoint. But even some of his haters are having to give him some credit, for now.
Prescott led the Cowboys to a 41-35 comeback win against the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday night at AT&T Stadium. He hit Jake Ferguson for a 12-yard go-ahead touchdown pass with 4:37 left, and Micah Parsons and the defense did the rest.
For Prescott, the 299-yard, three-touchdown night was another stellar performance in what's been the best run of football in his life: Since Oct. 16, the Cowboys quarterback has passed for 2,173 yards and 21 touchdowns, and he's thrown just two interceptions. And the Cowboys are 6-1 in that stretch.
They'll still need a win over the Eagles next Sunday night to stay in the hunt for the NFC East title. But division championship or not, the Cowboys are currently rolling, and Prescott is playing at an MVP level.
Yes, that might be hard to admit for the Dak critics, of which there are plenty.
The NFL's official account floated the question on X after Thursday night's game: "Has Dak entered the MVP conversation?"
There were the usual haters in the replies, especially from Philly, where Eagles fans think Jalen Hurts has been the best player in the league. But Dak had plenty of supporters, too.
"Hate to say it but he may be the favorite rn," a Giants fan chimed in.
"Yes which means the league is cooked this year," said a Ravens fan in what feels like a backhanded compliment.
"Even as an Eagles fan, it's undeniable how good Dak has been," a Philly fan said.
Cowboys fans seemingly aren't split on the issue. During Prescott's postgame interview on Amazon Prime, fans in the background kept chanting, "MVP!"
To the Eagles fans' point, Hurts does belong near the top of the MVP discussion. He's the current betting favorite, according to ESPN. The Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes is near the top, too, along with the Ravens' Lamar Jackson.
But Prescott's play really does put his critics in a quandary. For most of his career, some of the complaints have been valid: He hasn't led the Cowboys far in the playoffs. He's also been a consistent winner and at the helm of one of the top offenses in the league. And all of that has been wrapped into the microscope of being the quarterback of America's Team.
Prescott after Thursday's game was asked again about the "haters" and what they might be saying now.
He gave a typically-astute answer.
"I appreciate them," he said. "People can say what they want, but I have the pen, and I have the paper, so I'm the one doing the writing."
