DALLAS — The Dallas Cowboys announced Saturday they have placed wide receiver Brandin Cooks on injured reserve, which takes him out of action for at least four weeks.

The move comes after Cooks had team doctors clean up an infection in his right knee he sustained after getting surgery on it in New York. Before Saturday's injured reserve designation, a source told WFAA Cowboys insider Ed Werder that Cooks would miss one to three weeks while he recovered.

Now, that timeline extends on the longer end of those reports.

Cooks has endured minor issues with his right knee since training camp. In August, Cooks received an injection from a medical group in New York. In consultation with the team, he did a follow-up injection with the same doctors after the team’s victory against the Giants. The area became infected soon after he returned to Dallas a few days later.

Cowboys orthopedic surgeon Dr. Dan Cooper performed an arthroscopic procedure on Cooks in which antibiotics were administered to resolve the infection.

In Wednesday's media availability, head coach Mike McCarthy told media that Cooks was out for the Steelers game with a "knee issue," but would not comment further.

Through four games, Cooks, 31, has caught only nine passes for 91 yards and one touchdown, which he scored in Week 1 versus the Cleveland Browns. Four of those nine catches also came against the Browns.

Without Cooks in the fold, star receiver CeeDee Lamb will work alongside Jalen Tolbert, Jalen Brooks, KaVontae Turpin and Ryan Flournoy in the wide receiver room.

Cooks will be eligible to play again Nov. 10 against the Philadelphia Eagles.
