ARLINGTON, Texas — Outside of AT&T Stadium on Thanksgiving day, there were lines of tailgating tents filled with people ditching the conventional Turkey Day feast for Cowboys football.
Jaime Castaneda and his family drove the 8 hours up from Brownsville, Texas.
“We were here last Thanksgiving and we set up in that corner,” he said. “We had a big 100-inch projector. It was amazing.”
And fun enough for them to come back this year. Once again, they hauled their big football smoker to the lot in front of the stadium.
In the spirit of the holiday, they broke bread with new friends, and fed strangers -- including the WFAA crew.
A few tents down, Joe Morales and his crew came up from Corpus Christi.
“This is actually a first time for us tailgating, and we thought we'd try something different instead of doing the old traditional family turkey,” Morales said.
But don’t worry, they're still giving thanks. At one point, Morales asked his 5-year-old son what he’s thankful for.
His response? “My family!”
His father added: the Cowboys.
“Parsons, you know, I’m a big fan of all of them,” Morales said.
And, of course, the team’s 44-10 win over Washington that day.
