TCU fraternity holding flag football fundraiser for student killed in Fort Worth

Wes Smith walked on to the TCU football team in 2021. He was shot and killed outside of a Fort Worth bar in September.

FORT WORTH, Texas — The fraternity brothers of a TCU student killed in Fort Worth's West 7th Street district will be holding a fundraiser in his honor on Sunday.

Wes Smith walked on to the TCU football team in 2021. He was shot and killed outside of a Fort Worth bar in September.

A flag football game will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday at the TCU football practice fields, and proceeds made during the fundraiser will go towards a scholarship in Smith's name.

"Wes was truly an amazing and loving son, brother, cousin and friend to so many," his family said in a statement through TCU. "We are heartbroken by his passing and ask for the space to grieve during this terribly difficult time."

Smith was honored with a moment of silence before the TCU-Colorado season opener.
