TEXAS, USA — Houston resident and Astros superfan, Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale, is widely-known for his large wagers placed on his favorite MLB team. He put his money on the TCU Horned Frogs to win Monday's national championship.
According to VSiN’s Ben Fawkes, McIngvale placed a $1.5 million wager on the TCU moneyline at +370 odds in Louisiana. If the Horned Frogs had upset the Bulldogs, he would take home $5.55 million.
But, like TCU, he lost.
So, how's he taking it?
"It'll take me about five seconds to get over this and look forward to the next adventure. A gambler has to be resilient. You gotta know they're gonna knock ya down, and you get knocked down a lot," McIngvale told Bleacher Report Betting after the championship game. "We'll regroup and go forward again."
Now, of course, as the founder of a furniture store, Gallery Furniture, the bet was also used as a promotion for his business.
The promotion stated that anyone who purchased a qualifying mattress for $3,000 or more would be able to get twice their money back if TCU won.
This wager came after McIngvale won $75 million after wagering $10 million between several sportsbooks on the Astros winning the World Series last season.
Georgia was 12.5-point favorites over TCU through the week leading up to the championship, according to the Caesars Sportsbook.
