Air rifle comeback lifts TCU Rifle team to fourth national championship in university history, the first all-woman team to take home the title.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The TCU Rifle team is the 2024 NCAA National Champion, the only all-female team in history to win the championship.

No. 2 TCU fired a 2385 in air rifle and a 2347 in smallbore to reach a team total 4732 on the weekend, beating West Virginia by three shots to take the trophy.

The Horned Frogs, under head coach Karen Monez, also won national championships in 2010, 2012 and 2019. In addition to being the overall team National Champion, TCU also claimed the air rifle championship for the 5th time in school history (2010, 2012, 2021, 2022 and 2024).

In day 2 of competition, TCU trailed by six points when the team locked in. Katie Zaun shot a 598, Stephanie Grundsoee fired a 596, and Jeanne Haverhill had a score of 593 to finish the first relay of the day. Mikole Hogan fired a 596 and Stephanie Allan put up 595 in the final relay of the day, with the title on the line.

Grundsoee, Hogan, and Zaun all had individual placements as well. Zaun placed fourth, Hogan placed sixth and Grundsoee ended competition with a seventh-place finish.

Monday, decorated sophomore Katie Zaun starts action for the smallbore Olympic Trials in Georgia. The six-time All-American, unanimous CRCA First-Team All-American and Rifle Athlete of the Year hopes to be selected for USA Shooting ahead of the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

"I'm so proud of them," Monez said. "They fought hard and they prevailed."
