SMU Volleyball cracks top 25 ranking for 1st time in program history

SMU had program-defining sweep over No. 2 ranked Nebraska earlier this month.

DALLAS — For the very first time in their 19-year history, SMU Volleyball has cracked the top 25.

The Mustangs were ranked No. 22 by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA), which released on Monday.

This comes after the Mustangs got a program-defining sweep of the then-No. 2 ranked perennial powerhouse Nebraska Cornhuskers earlier this month and a sweep over then-No. 18 ranked Baylor Bears on the road.

All told, the Mustangs have shot out to a hot start with a 6-3 record in their inaugural ACC season.

SMU's other wins have come against (RV) San Diego, Milwaukee, Weber State, and Houston. SMU's three losses have come against (RV) Hawai'i, LMU and No. 10 ranked Kentucky.

SMU will take on Northern Iowa for the first of two matchups over the weekend with Panthers on Saturday, Sept. 21 at 1 p.m. CT in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Following the road trip to Iowa, SMU will start ACC play on the road against Georgia Tech on Sept. 27 at 6 p.m. CT.
