RENO, Nev. — The SMU Mustangs' veteran cornerback Brandon Crossley was ejected for allegedly spitting on a Nevada player during their game Saturday evening.
The incident occurred with 9 minutes to go in the third quarter. Nevada was punting the ball away on 4th and 10 when a flag was thrown.
SMU players pointed to the opposing side to indicate the penalty was on Nevada and shortly after, refs said that it was a false start on the Wolfpack, making it 4th and 15. However, just seconds later, an additional flag was thrown and after some conversation, the refs said it was on SMU's Crossley for spitting on a Nevada player.
Subsequently, Crossley was ejected for the penalty and Nevada was awarded a fresh set of downs as they already led the game 17-13.
This wasn't the only scuffle in the game as one also occurred in the first half and it resulted in three players receiving unsportsmanlike conduct penalties.
