SOUTH BEND, Ind. — It's always fun to get excited about a game years in advance -- and that's exactly what SMU fans should be doing now!
SMU Football announced Wednesday that it will be playing the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in 2026.
The game, which will be held in South Bend, Indiana, will serve as a great opportunity for SMU fans to get out to a very special and historic venue in college football.
According to SMU, this matchup became possible after Virginia agreed to a two-game series with West Virginia, which opened up a spot on Notre Dame's schedule.
As of now, there's currently no official game date or time, but since the Fighting Irish football program is an Independent team, it realistically could happen anytime throughout the season.
SMU Football said this will be the 14th matchup in the all-time series history and the first meeting since 1989.
