DALLAS — If you feel like you're getting older, then this news will just about confirm that feeling.
Cole Leinart, a class of 2026 quarterback at Redondo Union High School in California, has just committed to play football for the SMU Mustangs.
Now, you might be thinking: So what?
Well, this 6-foot-4-inch junior just so happens to be the son of Matt Leinart -- yes, the Heisman Trophy-winning, back-to-back national champion, USC QB Matt Leinart.
According to Cole's X account, he was in Dallas to watch SMU's beatdown of Pitt on Saturday, Nov. 3. That convincing win may have been the final box SMU needed to check off in order to land the three-star recruit.
According to 247Sports, Cole received other Power-4 offers from schools like Colorado and the aforementioned Pitt.
So, while he's still got a couple of years before he suits up for the Ponies, fans can begin to hope that maybe that Heisman-winning gene got passed down the line.
