Oklahoma State football players will wear QR codes on their helmet to the team's general NIL fund

The QR code initiative is part of the "Saddle Up Campaign" organized by Pokes With A Purpose.

STILLWATER, Okla. — If you see a little sticker on the back of Oklahoma State football players' helmets this season, there is a reason.

Oklahoma State announced Tuesday its players would wear QR codes on the back of their helmets that link to the team's general NIL fund. University officials said in a press release it is believed to be the first time that a college football team will wear QR codes in regular season games to promote players' earning potential.

"This is a revolutionary step forward to help keep Oklahoma State football ahead of the game," OSU Football Head Coach Mike Gundy said. "It gives a chance for everyday fans across the world to have a real impact when it comes to supporting the NIL efforts for Cowboy football. I'm thrilled about this opportunity for our players."

The QR codes will be put on a 1.5 square inch decal located on the back of the helmet that features each player's name and number in the design. The QR codes will also be put on each player's bag tag for use during "The Walk" on game days and for travel during the season.

The QR code takes you to a donation page for the "Saddle Up Campaign" organized by Pokes With A Purpose.

A QR code will also be placed on coasters in the premium areas of Boone Pickens Stadium, on signage throughout the stadium and on the OSU football equipment truck.

Oklahoma State opens their 2023-24 season against defending FCS national champion South Dakota State on Aug. 31.
