BOULDER, Colo. — Colorado head coach Deion Sanders posted a callout on X last week, searching for a bank to partner with him and the university.
The only context Sanders provided in the X post was it "for a Bank in Boulder or Denver that’s wants to have a business relationship with a few members of our team."
On Sunday evening, it came to light that Sanders secured a partnership with Elevations Credit Union to open savings accounts for eight players on the team who are fathers.
In a team meeting, Sanders called those players to the front and emphasized the importance of fatherhood to him and the Colorado program.
“Wan’t y’all to know, it ain’t like you’re in trouble. You ain’t done nothing wrong,” Sanders said. “Actually, matter of fact, you did something right.”
“A child is not a mistake. A child is an opportunity to mature you, grow you, advance you, and give you some skills,” Sanders continued. “Y’all know how I am about fathering. You know I would not hire a coach unless he’s a great father. I don’t hire a coach that’s a deadbeat, I don’t hire a coach that’s not taking care of his responsibilities. I would never hire a man that he says he’s going to look after y’all but he won’t look after his. That don’t make sense to me.”
The bank partnered with 5430 Alliance, the university's NIL collective, to open up bank accounts for the children of those players with a total of $2,121 in savings apiece, a nod to Sanders' playing number (21).
“We was blessed. I mean, truly blessed. This is unbelievable,” said Sanders.
Colorado opens its first season in the Big 12 Conference against North Dakota State on Aug. 29.
