Deion Sanders shares optimism ahead of second season in Boulder

The Colorado head coach spoke during the Buffs Fall Media Day as the season opener on Aug. 29 quickly approaches.

BOULDER, Colo. — University of Colorado head coach Deion Sanders talked on Friday about his team's additions, especially along the offensive line, that they hope will lead to an improvement from the four wins the Buffs secured last season.

Sanders, who spoke during the 71st Annual Fall Sports Media Day in Boulder, also spoke about his recovery from health issues, including blood clots in his leg and the amputation of toes on his left foot due to an old frostbite injury from his playing days.

He also teased new uniforms coming this season that he said he had a "heavy hand" with designing but made it clear that they are secondary to the team's performance on the field.

"Uniforms don't win or lose games," he said. "They just enhance the look."

He said that two-way star Travis Hunter is better than Sanders was at this point in his career but also praised his character, saying he is an upstanding person and student.

Sanders joked about having three children on campus who likely didn't get him anything for his birthday.

"Thank you for your consistency over the years, son," Sanders said. "I really appreciate what you do on every birthday ... nothing."
