DALLAS — The Dallas Mavericks are hoping to extend the series Friday night against the Boston Celtics as they are on the verge of being swept.

Now, this may seem futile to some as no team has ever come back to win a series in the NBA Playoffs after going down 3-0.

However, one should never say never, especially in the sports world -- crazy things happen all the time.

But let's not get ahead of ourselves. The Mavs are focusing on one game at a time and that starts with tonight.

The Mavs could use all the help they can get outside of good performances from stars Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving -- and with recent news of Scott Foster being assigned to officiate this game, some feel that this could be the boost the Mavs need.

Foster, or "The Extender," has been a scapegoat for many NBA fans for many years. Some will attempt to make connections between games he officiates and certain players records in those games -- i.e. Chris Paul.

Immediately, many X users took this as a clear-cut way for the NBA to try and extend the series -- whether its for ratings, money or whatever is important to TV executives.

Even two-time NBA Champion J.R. Smith chimed in to say this series will get extended.

Now, while some may be quick to assume the Mavs have this game locked up, let's take a look at games that Foster has officiated for the Celtics this season.

According to Basketball Reference, Foster has officiated six Celtics games this season and they have won every single one of them.

On the other side, Foster has officiated five games for the Mavs this season. However, they only won three of those matchups.

So, when looking at the numbers, this conspiracy doesn't make a whole lot of sense if the NBA is trying to extend the series for the Mavs.

Overall, the Mavs should bank on their skill and try to maximize every player's performance while on the court to hopefully win their first game of the NBA Finals, and not rely on a referee.
