DALLAS — For whatever reason, Rainn Wilson cannot stand the Dallas Mavericks.
Podcast host Bobbi Althoff asked Wilson if he'd ever met Mark Cuban, who has previously been a guest on Althoff's show, and Wilson replied he had not. Althoff then cold-called Cuban and handed the phone to Wilson, which led to The Office actor jousting with the former Mavericks owner.
Wilson, in a seemingly sarcastic tone, congratulated Cuban on selling the team. Cuban then asked Wilson if he wanted to come to a game.
"Honestly, I would love to, but I hate your team, and I wouldn't come to a Dallas game if you paid me," Wilson responded. "If you flew me on your private jet and paid me $10,000, I would go see your Dallas Mavericks play."
What gives, Dwight? Sheeeeeesh.
Wilson did not explain his beef, but his dislike for the Mavericks dates back to at least 2011.
"I never ever ever thought I'd be rooting for the (gulp) Dallas Mavericks," Wilson tweeted on May 31, 2011.
This was the day of Game 1 of the 2011 NBA Finals. Dallas lost to the LeBron James-led Miami Heat, 92-84. Mavs fans know all too well how the rest of that series played out.
Perhaps Wilson, a Seattle native, has some long-lost Mavericks grudge as a Supersonics fan?
Anyway, here's the full clip:
Cuban sold the Mavericks to the Adelson and Dumont families for $3.5 billion in November 2023. Cuban has remained involved with the franchise, however, in a basketball operations role.
