Mavericks fans are changing their profile pictures to Luka Doncic in sunglasses before Game 5. Here's why.

The photo shows Luka Doncic with sunglasses and headphones. It is a parody on a photo of LeBron James, who made a historic 3-1 comeback with the 2016 Cavaliers.

DALLAS — In addition to airing every game of the 2024 NBA Finals on our station, WFAA is also hosting a special presentation called "The Pregame" before every matchup in the series. Head here for more information.

In droves, fans of the Dallas Mavericks are changing their profile to one image.

The image is Mavs star Luka Doncic with sunglasses and headphones, but it's not that simple. The photo is a parody of a photo of LeBron James during the 2016 NBA Finals.

That year, LeBron and the Cleveland Cavaliers made a historic comeback, becoming the first team to win the Finals after being down 3-1.

During the 2016 Finals run, the image went viral. It became iconic when the Cavs actually won it all.

With the Mavericks now down 3-1 against the Boston Celtics in the NBA Finals, fans are replicating the photo, replacing LeBron with Luka. Hundreds have changed their profile picture to the image. Already.

The movement was started by @BiasedSlightly on X, formerly Twitter. He saw the image and changed his profile picture to it.

@lynziekate saw Slightly Biased's post, changed her profile picture too, and went to work recruiting fans to do the same.

"I said 'we're down 3-1,'"  Lynzie told WFAA, "'I have to lock in.'"

Quickly, other fans locked in with her.

"It's awesome," Lynzie said. "I love seeing the whole community come together."

The trend grew so big, even the Mavericks are shouting it out, asking fans to make the switch.

Some fans have even edited other Mavericks players to fit the meme.

If the Mavericks pull off a comeback, they would be the only team in NBA history to win the Finals after falling 3-0.
