DALLAS — The Dallas Mavericks and WFAA’s parent company TEGNA announced today a multi-year media rights agreement that will make WFAA the team's official local broadcast partner.
Under the new deal, all 70 non-nationally televised Mavericks games will be broadcast over-the-air for free on KFAA 29 (Ch. 29). Of those games, 15 or more will be simulcast on WFAA (Ch. 8). WFAA will also air five Mavs games as part ABC’s exclusive national NBA schedule: Dec. 25 vs. Minnesota, Jan. 25 vs. Boston, Feb. 23 @ Golden State, Mar. 9 vs Phoenix, and Mar. 16 vs. Philadelphia.
As the 2024-2025 NBA season nears, KFAA 29 -- formerly KMPX -- will transform into a fully locally-programmed independent station. (The Spanish language content currently airing on Ch. 29 will be moved to a different channel prior to the NBA season’s start.)
Details on Ch. 29’s future branding will be communicated to fans and viewers ahead of the start of the season – including information on where to watch Ch. 29 on your streaming and cable providers.
But fans don’t have to pay a dime to watch the Mavericks play this year if they have a TV with antenna capabilities or have equipped their television with an antenna.
