DALLAS — The Dallas Mavericks are on the cusp of greatness as they aim to close out the Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals.
The Mavs had the chance to sweep the Timberwolves on Tuesday night, but after dropping Game 4, they return to Minnesota in hopes of punching their ticket to the NBA Finals.
When was the last time the Mavs made it to the Finals?
To find the answer, we go back to a different era of the NBA. An era that had Lebron James in Miami, Derrick Rose as the league's MVP and Jason Kidd, now head coach of the Mavs, still in uniform.
The Mavs last went to the NBA Finals during the 2010-2011 post season.
This Mavs team, comprised of starting five Tyson Chandler, Jason Kidd, Shawn Marion, Dirk Nowitzki and DeShawn Stevenson, defeated the highly-touted Miami Heat in a 4-2 series.
Nowitzki and Kidd would later go on to be forever enshrined in the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame.
Now, Kidd and the Mavs have an opportunity to create a storybook ending as he can help bring a championship to the same organization he won one for in his playing days.
