Mavs expand local broadcasts to additional Texas markets, add Spanish-language DFW broadcasts

The agreement comes after the Mavs announced a broadcasting partnership with WFAA and its parent company TEGNA in January.

DALLAS — The Dallas Mavericks and WFAA's parent company TEGNA announced Friday plans to expand their local broadcast partnership for the 223-2024 NBA season to include WFAA's Texas sister stations KCEN in Waco, KYTX in Tyler, KWES in Midland-Odessa, KIDY in San Angelo and KXVA in Abilene.

This comes after the Mavs and WFAA announced in January that 10 locally broadcasted Mavericks games would air on WFAA in March and April.

The 10 locally-broadcasted games included in the deal come in addition to games already scheduled to air on WFAA as part of the national NBA on ABC calendar

Below is the full list of Mavericks games airing across these seven TEGNA Texas stations throughout the end of the 2023-2024 regular season:

  • Fri., Mar. 1 @ Boston Celtics, 6:30 p.m. CT
  • Mon., Mar. 11 @ Chicago Bulls, 7 p.m. CT
  • Wed., Mar. 13 vs Golden State Warriors, 7:30 p.m. CT
  • Thurs., Mar. 21, vs Utah Jazz, 7:30 p.m. CT
  • Fri., Mar. 29 @ Sacramento Kings, 9 p.m. CT
  • Thurs., Apr. 4 vs Atlanta Hawks, 6:30 p.m. CT
  • Fri., Apr. 5 vs. Golden State Warriors, 7:30 p.m. CT
  • Tue., Apr. 9 @ Charlotte Hornets, 6 p.m. CT
  • Wed., Apr. 10 @ Miami Heat, 6:30 p.m. CT
  • Fri. Apr. 12 vs Detroit Pistons, 7:30 p.m. CT

Per a joint TEGNA and Mavericks press release announcing the expanded agreement, nearly nine million Texans across these six markets will now have access to watch these free, over-the-air games.

"Providing access to games has always been our top priority," said Dallas Mavericks CEO Cynt Marshall. "We are thrilled to work with additional TEGNA stations to bring more fun and excitement to our MFFLs across Texas."

Across the state, the broadcasts will be anchored by longtime Mavericks TV play-by-play announcer Mark Followill, who will be joined as usual by color commentator Jeff “Skin” Wade, as well as Mavericks legends and broadcast analysts Derek Harper and Devin Harris.

"We are very proud to expand our partnership with the Dallas Mavericks, one of the hottest teams in the NBA coming out of the All-Star break, to make these important late-season games available to more fans across Texas," said Brad Ramsey, senior vice president of media operations for TEGNA.

Additionally, Spanish-speaking Mavericks fans in North Texas will be able to view a second, Spanish-language broadcast of these 10 games through another, separate deal announced by the Mavericks and TelevisaUnivision earlier this week.

Those broadcasts, which will air on UniMás (Ch. 49), make the Mavericks the third NBA team to offer full Spanish telecasts. Per a joint press release from the Mavs and TelevisaUnivision, these games will reach 716,000 Latino households and 2.3 million Latinos in North Texas.

"Adding Spanish-language broadcasts for the first-time ever is very exciting for the Mavs and our growing MFFL fanbase," Marshall said in a statement. "It is important that we continue the journey to make our games accessible for everyone, and we are thrilled to work with TelevisaUnivision to make this happen. ¡Somos Mavs!"

Victor Villalba, the Spanish voice of the Mavericks, and Univision sports reporter Pedro Silva will call the newly-scheduled UniMás games. Alex Villareal will broadcast on 99.1 Zona MX, which will also be available through the Mavs app.
