Cynt Marshall to retire as CEO of Dallas Mavericks

Marshall first joined the Mavs in March 2018 on a three-year contract.

DALLAS — Cynt Marshall, Chief Executive Officer of the Dallas Mavericks, announced Tuesday that she would be retiring as the team's CEO.

Marshall will remain in her current role through the end of the year and then act as a consultant for the organization through December 2025.

This comes less than a year after former Mavs majority owner Mark Cuban sold a majority stake in Dallas' NBA franchise to the Las Vegas-based casino magnate Miriam Adelson and her family.

Marshall first joined the Mavs in March 2018 on a three-year contract. She played a pivotal role in strengthening the team’s ties to the North Texas community through a range of philanthropic initiatives.

Marshall helped launch programs like "Mavs Take ACTION!," in 2020, positioned the Mavericks as a leading advocate for social justice while promoting education, mentorship, and employment opportunities for underserved populations in Dallas. In addition, the Mavs Foundation, with Cynt’s leadership, worked to amplify its contributions to local nonprofits as well.

“Cynt Marshall is a force of nature," Mavericks Governor Patrick Dumont said. "I like to say her superpower is bringing people together, but the truth is she has many superpowers. Cynt has always gone above and beyond in everything she has done, and her leadership of the Dallas Mavericks is no exception. She is an indelible fixture in the history of this franchise, and we are eternally grateful. The positive impact she has had here will be felt for a very long time."

When Cuban hired Marshall in 2018, the franchise was reeling from allegations of sexual assault and workplace misconduct.

A seven-month-long investigation found improper workplace conduct toward multiple employees, NPR reported

During her tenure, the Mavs launched Girls Empowered by Mavericks in 2021. The Dallas Wings joined the effort in 2023 and the Mavericks became the first NBA team to become a WNBA team franchise jersey sponsor.

Prior to joining joining the Mavs, Cynt had retired from a 36-year career with AT&T and founded a consulting firm specializing in leadership, diversity and inclusion.
