The Rangers are in the playoffs. Who will they play? What round? Latest scenarios here

Here are the main playoff scenarios to know, as Texas punched its ticket to the playoffs.

DALLAS — The Texas Rangers are in the playoffs.

Their 6-1 win over the Seattle Mariners secured at least a Wild Card spot in the postseason, their first trip to the playoffs since 2016.

The win Saturday night came after consecutive losses to Seattle, which got plenty of Rangers fans worrying if Texas was going to blow their chance.

They did not, instead coming through with a commanding win over the Mariners.

But there's still some playoff shuffling left to happen.

While Texas was beating Seattle on Saturday night, the Astros ended up beating the Arizona Diamondbacks to remain one game behind the Rangers in the American League West standings. If Texas loses Sunday, and Houston wins, then the Astros would be AL West champs, sending Texas to the Wild Card round.

Here are the main scenarios to know, if Houston holds on to beat the Diamondbacks:

If Texas wins Sunday

One more win will clinch the American League West championship for the Rangers. It doesn't matter what Houston does Sunday, if Texas wins. That would mean they would open the postseason in the American League Division Series beginning Saturday, Oct. 7, at Globe Life Field in Arlington.

If Texas and the Astros lose Sunday

An Astros loss would also secure the Rangers the American League West championship, even if Texas loses to the Mariners on Sunday.

If Texas loses and the Astros win Sunday

In this scenario, the Astros would clinch the American League West, finishing with the same record as the Rangers but getting the edge by way of a tiebreaker. Houston beat Texas in their season-long series, so that's why they'd win the tiebreaker.

This would send Texas to the Wild Card round, most likely on the road at Minnesota, where they would play the Twins in a best-of-three series beginning Tuesday.
