A true 1-of-1: Why a Josh Jung rookie card ended up listed for $10,000

ARLINGTON, Texas — Texas Rangers third baseman Josh Jung was one of the top rookies in baseball this season and played a key role for the World Series champions.

He also has jokes, too.

On Sunday, a picture surfaced on social media of a signed Jung rookie card. Except this was more than just an autographed card.

Jung took the liberty to doodle glasses and a mustache on himself, along with a "Go Rangers!" in the top left corner.

The card was his 2023 Topps Heritage rookie card.

Some had speculated whether Jung did the doodle, or if it was done by someone else. But Jung fessed up to it.

"I thought it would be fun to throw a little Easter egg out into the hobby," Jung posted on X. "I'm glad it finally surfaced! Won't be the last."

Eric Whiteback, who posted the card on X on Sunday, said the eBay seller was asking $10,000 for the card. By Monday, the card was no longer listed on eBay, and it wasn't showing up as a recent sale - so there's no word if it actually fetched that much.

A regular Jung-autographed Topps Heritage rookie goes for about $100.

If you're not familiar with the card-collecting hobby, here's how this works: Jung and other rookies are sent the cards to sign, and most, if not all, get the standard signature, one after the other.

But every now and then, a player will get creative and draw an "Easter egg" on the card, like Jung did here.

Credit to Jung for keeping this one under wraps, too. The 2023 Topps Heritage set was released in May, which means Jung likely signed the card months earlier. So he's been sitting on this for a good while, just waiting on a lucky collector to find the card buried in a pack.
