CHICAGO — Corey Seager made Major League Baseball history on Thursday, and perhaps dozens of fans were there to see it happen.
The Rangers star shortstop slugged his 200th career home run against the Chicago White Sox, in a lightly-attended game at Guaranteed Rate Field. The home run made Seager the first left-handed shortstop in league history to reach the 200-homer plateau, according to the club.
It was his 30th longshot of the season, making him just the third Ranger ever to hit at least 30 homers in his first three seasons with the club. Adrian Beltre and Alex Rodriguez were the others.
Seager made the most of his milestone homer, drilling a Nick Nastrini pitch that registered a 113 mph exit velocity. The homer continued his tear of a series against the White Sox. In Wednesday's doubleheader, Seager racked up six hits, including a pair of doubles and a go-ahead single in the ninth inning of the nightcap.
And while Seager's 2024 season won't match the near-MVP level he played at in 2023, he's more than earning his keep. After Thursday's homer, Seager was batting .278 with .870 on-base plus slugging percentage, among the best in the American League.
