The Texas Rangers announced Thursday that pitching coach Mike Maddux will not return to the club in 2016.
Maddux was informed that the Rangers would "go in another direction," according to a release from the team. General Manager Jon Daniels and Manager Jeff Banister met with the veteran pitching coach Thursday morning.
"I want to thank Mike for his outstanding contributions to the Texas Rangers organization," Daniels said in the release. "He has played a major role in the success we have enjoyed over the last seven years. His dedication to developing and improving our major league pitching staff is greatly appreciated."
News 8's media partners at the Star-Telegram reported earlier this month that the Rangers had offered Maddux a contract extension.
Texas owns the 6th best ERA in the American League during Maddux' tenure and has won 612 games during that time. The pitching staff has ranked in the top 10 in Major League Baseball in team ERA twice since Maddux took the reins in November of 2008.
The Rangers' pitching staff finished in the bottom eight in team ERA in 2014 and 2015, despite the team's playoff surge this season.
Maddux came to Texas from the Milwaukee Brewers, where he was the pitching coach from 2003-08.
Maddux and his wife have a home in Tarrant County, and his two daughters live in the area.
Members of the coaching staff expected to return in 2016 are third base coach Tony Beasley, bench coach Steve Buechele, assistant hitting coach Bobby Jones, first base coach Hector Ortiz, and field coordinator Jayce Tingler.
