ARLINGTON, Texas — Texas Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said Josh Jung could be back in "six weeks or so" after breaking his wrist against the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday night.
Bochy was giving an update on Jung in an interview with "K&C Masterpiece" on 105.3 The Fan on Tuesday afternoon.
Bochy didn't commit to a more specific timetable, but Jung was put on the 10-day Injured List, the team announced Tuesday. The Rangers haven't said if Jung's injury will require surgery.
Jung was hit in the wrist while swinging at an inside pitch from Rays reliever Phil Maton in the ninth inning Monday. Jung had homered and collected two singles earlier in the game.
The 26-year-old, who missed time with a broken thumb last season, had just returned to game action last week after missing most of spring training with a calf injury.
"We call it buzzard luck," Bochy told The Fan crew. "That's how bad it's been."
Bochy described Jung as despondent after the game. The Rangers' 2019 draft pick also missed extensive time in the minor leagues with injuries.
"He didn't say anything. that's how down he was," Bochy said. "He was just so quiet and he's a guy who talks all the time. He has so much energy. This one got him, I think."
The Rangers are calling up prospect Justin Foscue, the team announced Tuesday. Foscue, 25, was the Rangers' first-round draft pick in 2020. He can play multiple positions in the infield, including third base.
Utilitymen Josh Smith and Ezequiel Duran are also candidates to get time at the hot corner in place of Jung.
