ARLINGTON, Texas — When the Rangers took home game one of the World Series, there were two best friend fans in the stands, a grandfather and granddaughter.
"We were high fiving and hugging and screaming it was just really, really cool!" Robert Goddard told WFAA.
Goddard was at the game with his beloved granddaughter, Hailey Waldon.
He goes by Pawpaw, and she’s Pumpkin.
"Going to the World Series, both times, is always something I’ll remember for the rest of my life," Waldon Said.
That’s right, they went both times.
12 years ago, on Halloween night 2011, Waldon was in fourth grade when her Pawpaw took her to the Rangers-Cardinals World Series.
When the rangers made it again last week,"[Hailey] said wouldn’t it be nice to go again?" Goddard explained to WFAA. "And I said it would be great, but I don’t think I could afford it this year."
So Waldon, now a 22-year-old young working woman with a paycheck, decided to return the favor, and surprise her pawpaw with tickets she paid for.
"We had the best seats in the house!" Goddard said.
"Oh my God, we had he worst seats in the house," Waldon said, laughing. "But he thought they were the best seats."
"We had the best seats in the house," Goddard reaffirmed.
Tickets, as most know, weren’t cheap. Her Pawpaw’s still fighting to pay her back.
But for the man who helped raise her, and taught her to love the Rangers, Pumpkin said every penny was worth it.
"For me to be able to do something for my pawpaw..." she said.
"She’s just very special," Goddard chimed in. "It’s just Hailey. It’s just what pumpkin does."
