DALLAS — When 74-year-old Wayne Maynard, of Dallas, looks in the mirror he sees, well, not Wayne.
“Bruce,” Maynard said while peering into a mirror.
Bruce? Who’s Bruce?
“One of my friends sent me a picture and said, ‘look, you have a twin,’” said Maynard.
Maynard said he had no idea he had a twin until that friend said, ‘Hey, you know who you look like? Texas Rangers manager, Bruce Bochy.’
“And I looked at the picture and went, ‘Yeah, he does look like me.’ Poor guy,” Maynard said.
Poor guy? Bochy has accomplished a lot in his first year as manager.
But Maynard? He’s a financial advisor. In his free time, he flies planes for a non-profit called Angel Flight.
But then the Rangers kept winning and people kept staring.
“I thought they’d been staring at me because I became very good looking,” Maynard joked.
Turns out, a lot of people can’t tell the difference between him and Bochy, even those closest to him.
When asked if she knew whether it was her grandpa or Bochy, Maynard’s granddaughter said, "I don’t know."
“See? Perfect,” Maynard responded. “She doesn’t know. She can’t tell us apart.”
Maynard said if fans see him out and about, they’re welcome to ask for a picture or an autograph.
“They’ll be very disappointed,” Maynard laughed.
Sadly, he’s not the real deal. But for the World Series? He’d love to be.
“I’d be happy to be his body double and protect him during all seven games,” Maynard said. “But of course, I’d have to be there.”
But he’ll likely be on the couch, watching as the Rangers play in their first World Series since 2011.
Maynard says he has absolutely no idea how the World Series will play out, but after watching the most recent series, he hopes it’ll look exactly the same.
