Arlington ISD band students preparing for 'once-in-a-lifetime' opportunity to perform at Rangers World Series Championship parade

The Texas Rangers organization asked band students from six Arlington ISD high schools to perform during the festivities.

ARLINGTON, Texas — There’s only one way to describe what Bowie High School Band Director Rumaldo Solis is helping his students gear up for.

“It’ll be once in a lifetime,” Solis said, as his high school band rehearsed after school Thursday.

The classic baseball song “Take Me out to the Ball Game” echoed from the band room as his students worked to fine-tune their performance.

The Texas Rangers asked band students from all six Arlington High Schools to perform at the Rangers World Series Parade on Friday.

Solis, the school’s band director of 14 years, said he’s ecstatic.

“They’re gonna [sic] sound fantastic tomorrow,” Solis said. “It means the world to me that I get to see my kids being happy showcasing their music in front of all of the people in the city of Arlington.”

Brooklyn Sarmiento, a senior and band president, said she learned about the invitation to perform on Thursday morning.

“Finding out we were gonna be included with everybody, I was really excited,” Sarmiento said. “It’ll really show them the kind of family we can instantly make with everybody and the excitement that comes from it.”

Solis told WFAA the high schools will wear their designated school colors as they march along the parade route.

“It is gonna be a sight to see,” Solis said.

The band will perform a special arrangement just for the Texas Rangers.

“We are thrilled about this opportunity for our students,” Arlington ISD Interim Superintendent Dr. Steven Wurtz said. “They are so talented and everyone will know that after they see them perform at the parade.”
