ARLINGTON, Texas — Wednesday, the MLB announced the 18 starters for the 2024 MLB All-Star Game.

Despite being the reigning World Series champions -- and the hosts of this year's All-Star week -- no Texas Rangers players were named an American League starter. This is a major step back for the Rangers, who had four players voted into the starting lineup last season, and one more subbing in as an injury replacement.

The only Rangers player who came close to starting was second baseman Marcus Semien, who finished runner-up to Astros star Jose Altuve.

Despite no players making the starting lineup, Rangers' manager Bruce Bochy will manage the American League All-Stars.

This year, fan voting determined the starters. Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge and Phillies first baseman Bryce Harper earned automatic bids earlier after leading the first phase of voting.

Los Angeles slugger Shohei Ohtani earned his record-setting fourth bid starting as designated hitter in an All-Star Game. This is his first appearance in the game as a Dodger, and he surpasses the record previously held by David Ortiz -- a.k.a. Big Papi.

The starting lineup features 18 players from 10 different teams. The Phillies sent the most players at three, and the Yankees, Orioles, Astros, Guardians, Brewers and Padres are each sending two players to start.

For eight players, the vote marks their first opportunity to start in the All-Star Game: Yordan Alvarez, Jurickson Profar, Alec Bohm, William Contreras, Steven Kwan, Juan Soto, Gunnar Henderson and Adley Rutschman.

Here are the starters for the American League:

  • Catcher: Adley Rutschman, Orioles
