DALLAS — The SMU-TCU “Iron Skillet” T-Shirt rivalry has escalated.
After Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson and two other Dallas City Council members were seen sporting "TCU Sucks" shirts during a meeting earlier this week ahead of Saturday’s SMU-TCU game, Fort Worth Mayor Mattie Parker donned a shirt of her own.
Parker shared a photo on X, formerly Twitter, of herself in a “life is too short to live in Dallas” shirt. Parker wrote simply, “what the shirt says. #GoFrogs.”
The SMU Mustangs and TCU Horned Frogs are set to face off Saturday at Gerald J. Ford Stadium, which is the last time the rivalry game is scheduled in Dallas.
Ahead of the game, Johnson and Parker also agreed to a friendly wager on the game.
“In the unlikely event that @TCUFootball beats SMUFB, I will treat you and the Fort Worth City Council to breakfast from Dallas’ own Shug’s Bagels,” Johnson wrote on X.
“I’m confident the Horned Frogs will keep the Iron Skillet in the 817,” Parker wrote. “If TCU loses, I will treat you and the Dallas City Council to a delicious meal from Pulido’s Restaurant in Fort Worth #GoFrogs,” Parker wrote in response.
TCU announced in 2023 that it would “indefinitely” pause the longstanding rivalry series with SMU after the 2025 season, citing a desire to play more home games.
SMU and TCU have played each other 102 times since 1915. Last season, TCU beat SMU 34-17, bringing its lead in the series to 53-42-7.
