In the USA Today Super 25 national boys basketball poll released this week, Plano West is ranked No. 5 nationally while DeSoto is No. 23.

5. Plano West, Texas (23-7)

The Wolves return four starters from a team that lost by two points in the 5A regional quarterfinals to Richardson Berkner. The top returnees include All-State forward D.J. Hogg (20.1 ppg and 7.7 rpg), who has committed to Texas A&M; Mickey Mitchell (13.6 ppg, 7.7 rpg), a 6-8 senior who has committed to Ohio State and can play several positions, including point guard; and senior guard Soso Jamabo (12.5 ppp, 5.4 rpg), one of the top running backs in the country. Another key starter is sophomore guard Chris Giles (5.2 ppg), who already has an offer from Oklahoma. Another key player is A&M commit Tyler Davis, a 6-10, 280-pound senior, who was ineligible last season but is considered the No. 15 player in the 2015 class.

Plano West's early-season schedule that includes the Elite 14 Showcase; a national tournament in Huntington, West Virginia and a Dec. 8 game with 5A power Lancaster that's likely to be televised; and the Whataburger Invitational in Fort Worth in late December.

23. DeSoto, Texas (31-4)

The returning state semifinalists return 6-10 center Marques Bolden, considered the No. 22 player in the 2016 class, according to ESPN.com. The Eagles also get back junior guard Julian Miranda and senior guard Dominique Thomas, who started last season. Edric Dennis, a senior guard who transferred from Skyline (Dallas), should play a key role as well.
