ARLINGTON, Texas — The Gunter Tigers have won their second consecutive state championship after defeating the Tidehaven Tigers (no relation) on Thursday night in the 3A Division II title matchup at AT&T Stadium.
The win for Gunter was their 31st straight – and 45th win in the team's last 46 games – after trouncing their feline counterparts, 30-14.
Gunter has blown its opposition out all season long, posting seven shutouts in the lead-up to the state title game:
- 38-0 vs. Trinity Christian
- 82-0 vs. Howe
- 75-0 vs. Lone Oak
- 63-0 vs. Leonard
- 54-0 vs. Blue Ridge
- 75-0 vs. Trinity Leadership** (bi-district playoff game)
- 45-0 vs. Comanche** (regional playoff game)
The wins against Howe, Lone Oak, Leonard, Blue Ridge, and Trinity Leadership all happened in consecutive weeks. That's right: The Tigers didn't allow a single point for a month straight.
Led by head coach Jake Fieszel, Gunter -- located in Grayson County, about an hour north of Dallas -- finished the season with an undefeated record (16-0) and claimed their fourth state championship in school history (2016-17; 2019-20; 2022-23; 2023-24).
