ARLINGTON, Texas — It's the juggernaut matchup all Texas high school football fans have got accustomed to seeing this time of the year: Duncanville vs. North Shore.
The Panthers and Mustangs have met in the 6A-Division I state championship five out of the last six seasons. And, from 2018 to 2021, the North Shore Mustangs beat Duncanville every single time.
Then, last season, the Panthers finally took down their title game kryptonite and beat the Mustangs, 28-21.
In Saturday's matchup, Duncanville emerged victorious once again, becoming back-to-back state champs by topping North Shore 49-33.
North Shore was perfect in championship game appearances (5-for-5) prior to its 2022 loss to the Panthers.
Now, Duncanville seems to have North Shore's number.
This marks Duncanville's third state title in school history. Prior to its recent pair of championships, the Panthers had only won in 1998. That year, they beat Converse Judson, 24-21.
