ARLINGTON, Texas — There isn't a school in the state of Texas with the championship pedigree that Aledo has.
The Bearcats came into Friday's game with the most state championships in Texas history (11), and now they've added a 12th piece of hardware to their illustrious trophy case.
Aledo topped Smithson Valley, 51-8, in the 5A Division 1 championship Friday night.
Smithson Valley was making its fourth appearance in the state championship, and looking to claim their first title.
Unfortunately for the Rangers, they ran into the buzzsaw that is Aledo.
Aledo had dominated its competition all year long heading into the title game, scoring an average of 49.7 points per game while only allowing 16.4. Their closest contest was a thrilling 48-45 Week 2 win over fellow North Texas powerhouse Denton Guyer.
With Friday's win, Aledo finished their 2023 season undefeated, with a 16-0 record.
