We've been talking a lot about the biggest rivalry in North Texas High School history and depending on who you ask, Cedar Hill vs. DeSoto is it.
This is the game everyone in these two towns looks forward to all year. Bragging rights are on the line, playoff positioning on the line, and a little piece of Belt Line history all hang in the balance tonight.
These two teams have been playing one another since 1956 but since the turn of the century, this rivalry has hit a level that maybe no rivalry across the state can touch. Intensity, state championship contention, a little bit of animosity, this one has everything.
Both teams have two losses – mostly against good teams, but neither program is used to losing three regular-season games.
And neither wants to pick up a 3rd L tonight.
Desoto has been heating up - a 72-6 win over Waco last week, and a 30-point win over Mansfield, prior to that. They have a dangerous passing attack, with several tremendous weapons on the edge, and can pose matchup nightmares for opposing defenses.
Cedar Hill comes in off three straight wins, all in district play, to sit tied for 1st in the league standings and they do it first & foremost with their defense – they’ve allowed just 10 ppg in district play.
The Battle for Beltline kicks off at 7:30 pm on the WFAA YouTube channel.
