Riley Dodge, the son of former Southlake Carroll head football coach Todd Dodge and a 2006 5A state champion quarterback at Carroll, will return to the school as the head football coach.

WFAA Sports’ Mike Leslie confirmed Friday the deal was close to becoming official. Dodge was expected to be announced as the next head coach at Monday night's board meeting.

Dodge was the offensive coordinator for Justin Northwest last season. He was on the staff in multiple roles for Flower Mound Marcus before that.

The 29-year-old was an integral part of the Southlake dynasty built by his father, Todd Dodge, in the 2000s. A deal to bring the elder Dodge back for a second tenure at Southlake fell through earlier this month, according to the Star-Telegram.

Riley was one of three finalists for the coaching vacancy at Carroll after former coach Hal Wasson was put on administrative leave and later departed from the school after the two sides reached a settlement.

The announcement of Dodge’s hiring at Southlake comes almost exactly two years after he was arrested on suspicion of DWI with a child in his car. A Tarrant County grand jury decided not to indict him two months later when it determined Dodge didn’t appear intoxicated in video of a field sobriety test.
