DALLAS — There was at least one notable North Texan on the stage for President-elect Donald Trump's presumptive victory speech early Wednesday morning: Pro golfer Bryson DeChambeau.
The U.S. Open champion was spotted among the group of family and friends who joined Trump for his speech at the Mar-a-Lago Club in Florida early Wednesday. Trump made the speech claiming victory, a win that was then projected and called by major outlets a couple hours later.
Trump's victory was called after he clinched key battleground states Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, to go along with North Carolina and Georgia earlier in the evening.
Trump coasted to victory in his current home state of Florida and in Texas, where DeChambeau, 31, has lived since his playing days at SMU.
DeChambeau was seen wearing a black "Make America Great Again" hat at the event.
While DeChambeau hadn't outright endorsed Trump, he apparently was close with the former president, who will now return to the White House. The two played a golf scramble together that was filmed for DeChambeau's YouTube page earlier this year.
DeChambeau lives in Grapevine. He grew up in California but has remained in North Texas since going to college at SMU.
DeChambeau, who currently plays on the LIV Golf tour in addition to competing in the major tournaments, was joined at the Trump victory speech by UFC president Dana White, who spoke at the event.
Trump will be inaugurated in Washington, D.C. on Jan. 20, after the election is certified on Jan. 6.
