Coach Jordan's letter to Garland community

This is one of the most bittersweet things I have ever written. I will start with the bitter - After 28 wonderful years of faithfully serving GHS students, I am no longer "officially" an Owl. I find a complex mix of emotions pouring through my heart at this moment. It seems like just the other day that an excited, incredibly naive and optimistic young man first walked into the Field House at Williams Stadium. I was so proud to be an Owl, coaching freshman football, soccer and teaching Informal Geometry and Math Models. (A couple of classes not offered any more!) There have been so many fantastic co-workers and students that I have been around - memories have been made here that will last a life-time. I am greatly indebted to Garland High School. Every bit of professional success and a lot of personal happiness is strictly due to the fact that I became an Owl in August 1988. I got married, had kids, raised them and sent them off to college - I practically grew up here! It has all gone by so fast - if I could go back and do it all again, I would without any hesitation. Garland High School is a special place - always has been and always will be - because it truly is about family, people caring about each other. In my heart, I will always be a Garland Owl - it is one of the defining aspects of my life. Thank you to everyone that has been a part of this wonderful run! Gig'em Owls!

Now for the sweet - I am incredibly excited about the next phase of my life! I am going to be the Director of Personnel for the University of Kansas Football Team, coached by my good friend (and fellow Owl) David Beaty! This job will take all the things I have learned in 29 years of coaching high school football along with 28 years of working in the Dallas Cowboys Scouting Department and put it all together. We are about to build a unique personnel department and talent evaluation system that I believe is going to revolutionize college football! It is going to take a lot of time and work, but I am so excited about this new opportunity. It was going to take a truly special situation for me to leave Garland High, and I believe this is it. Not only is the work going to be interesting and challenging, I am going to work for a guy that I have known for almost 30 years and trust completely. I believe in his vision for Kansas football and what we can accomplish. There are very few people in the world that I would leave GHS for and Dave is one of them! David and Raynee are good people and have wonderful families that I care for dearly. Shannon and I are so excited to become a part of the Jayhawk family and are looking forward to this new adventure! Rock Chalk!
