Matt Webb was named Frisco Centennial football coach by the Frisco ISD school board. Webb has been the Titans' offensive coordinator and replaces former coach Ronny Mullins, who took over at Irving MacArthur. Webb is a long-time coaching veteran in multiple sports. He has coached at Lancaster, Waxahachie and Colleyville Heritage.
Webb offers the Titans stability after coaching changes the last two years. Mark Howard left two years ago to take over at Trinity Christian Addison.
March 30: Dane Johnson formally signed his Saginaw contract after school board approval. “Dane is a winner with impeccable character,” EMS ISD Athletic Director, Brent Barker said. “The task of rebuilding the program at Flower Mound in one of the toughest 6A districts in the state which includes; Allen, Plano East/West, Lewisville, Hebron, Marcus and McKinney-Boyd; was a valuable coaching experience that helped him grow professionally.”
March 28: Saginaw is expected to announced Dane Johnson as football coach in a reunion of Southlake Carroll success stories of the 1990s. According to multiple reports, Johnson will be recommended at Monday's school board meeting. Johnson played baseball at Southlake Carroll under Eagle-Mountain Saginaw ISD athletic director Brent Barker. Johnson was a four-sport star in Southlake Carroll's dominance in the early 1990s. Johnson was a key player in the Dragons' 1990 two state champions under former coach Bob Ledbetter. Johnson also helped Carroll reach the UIL state basketball tournament and helped make the baseball program a success. Barker took Carroll to the Class 4A UIL state tournament in 1996.
Barker couldn't confirm or deny the search but said the ISD had a school board meeting Monday evening.
After six years as Saginaw's head coach, Mike Peters left after the 2015 season to return to far West Texas and his native Pecos roots to be head coach at Fort Stockton. Saginaw was 5-5 last season but didn't reach the Class 5A state playoffs.
A former Southlake Carroll and Texas Tech standout, Johnson went to Flower Mound in 2012. Flower Mound was 1-9 leach of the last two seasons. In the four years, Flower Mound was 7-33. Johnson previously was head coach at Boerne before arriving back in North Texas, where Johnson has been an assistant at Allen and Hebron.
March 23: Brownwood coach Chuck Howard unexpectedly resigned for family reasons after receiving a 2-year extension last month. Brownwood went 11-3 and reached the Class 4A Division I state quarterfinals last season. a program built by the legacy of the late Gordon Wood, Brownwood has success in Howard's three seasons as head coach .. Among top candidates will be Lee Fedora, who recently left Navasota where Fedora led by Rattlers to 4A state titles in 2012 and 2014.
