Flower Mound football coach Dane Johnson told players Tuesday afternoon he was resigning after years. Lewisville ISD athletic director Tim Ford said Johnson hasn't formally turned in paperwork and that the job wouldn't be posted until then.
A former Southlake Carroll and Texas Tech standout, Johnson has been at Flower Mound since 2012. Flower Mound was 1-9 leach of the last two seasons. In the four years, Flower Mound was 7-33. Johnson previously was head coach at Boerne before arriving back in North Texas, where Johnson has been an assistant at Allen and Hebron. Johnson was a key player in Southlake Carroll's 1990 teams and played for two state champions under former coach Bob Ledbetter.
Flower Mound is the first North Texas Class 6A opening, but there have been other notable changes. Former Lewisville coach Ronnie Gage had returned to coaching in Barbers Hill after a stint at Austin College, but Gage announced last week he was retiring from Barbers Hill.
