FRISCO, Texas — The Dallas Open will move from SMU to Ford Center at The Star in Frisco in conjunction with the tournament’s upgrade to the ATP 500 level in 2025.
John Isner, a 16-time ATP tour winner and unofficial host of the Dallas Open at SMU, said at a press conference that he anticipates the tournament will continue to grow at The Star.
"It's been incredibly successful at SMU for the first two years and just one more year next year," Isner said. "Then you start to think how can you scale the event. How can it get bigger?... Enter the Dallas Cowboys and The Star here, and the partnership is going to be amazing."
"It is our incredible honor on behalf of our family and the Dallas Cowboys to partner with Gary (Fuhrman, GF Capital CEO) and GF Sports and Entertainment to bring the Dallas Open right here to Ford Field at the Star in Frisco," Charlotte Jones, Dallas Cowboys executive vice president and chief brand officer, said.
Earlier this month, it was announced that the February event, which debuted in Dallas as an ATP 250 tournament in 2022, would be upgraded to a 500-level tournament, beginning in 2025. It will be one of 16 global events at the 500-level.
"We're going to be showcasing Dallas. We're going to be showcasing our tennis tournament to over 120 countries around the world. We're going to activate this entertainment district like you've never seen before," tournament director Peter Lebedevs said. "There's going to be nothing better than being in those seats here for the 2025 Dallas Open as a 500-level tournament."
"The ATP is all about creating more premium events, trying to foster that growth, get in the right communities, get in the right cities, and, to me, there's no better city in America than Dallas, Texas," AVP board member Mark Knowles added.
The third year of the Dallas Open is set for Feb. 3-11, 2024, at the Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex at SMU. It will be the only ATP Tour indoor championship in the United States, and features men’s top world tennis players in singles and doubles competition.
The 2022 tournament brought ATP Tour level tennis back to Dallas for the first time in more than 30 years. The tournament featured more than 60 world-class ATP Tour professionals and was televised worldwide to more than 100 countries.
Previously held as the New York Open, the Dallas Open is one of the longest-running American tournaments on the ATP Tour and has featured some of the top names in tennis, including John McEnroe, Pete Sampras, Andre Agassi, Andy Roddick, Michael Chang, John Isner and Andy Murray, as well as Kei Nishikori, Milos Raonic and Reilly Opelka.
