Dallas Jackals withdraws from Major League Rugby amid ownership issues

The Dallas Jackals will withdraw from Major League Rugby for the 2025 season, the league announced.

ARLINGTON, Texas — The Dallas Jackals withdrew from Major League Rugby play in 2025, the league announced.

According to a statement from Major League Rugby, the team is in the process of potentially transferring ownership. The team is "continuing to evaluate a controlling interest transfer which will not be complete in time for them to plan for and compete in 2025," according to a statement from Major League Rugby.

The Jackals, which started play in 2022, are based in Arlington at Choctaw Stadium. The team earned a 6-10 record in 2024 and is currently ranked 4th in the league.

Major League Rugby, founded in 2017, is also based in Dallas, Texas. The league said it will announce plans for a player dispersal process soon. The league had 12 teams competing in the 2024 season, according to its website.

"Our focus is on the team, its players and planning for another successful MLR season in 2025," the release states.
