FORT WORTH, Texas — TCU and Baylor meet on the gridiron for the 119th time on Saturday at Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth.
And now, the rivalry has a name, officially.
The schools on Monday announced the creation of the "Bluebonnet Battle," the victor of which will also receive a newly-created trophy to go along with it.
The bluebonnet is the state flower of Texas, and you'll see plenty of them on the drive along Interstate 35 between TCU and Baylor (in the spring, that is.)
With the announcement of the new name, the schools are also pointing out that TCU-Baylor is now the most-played rivalry in the state, surpassing Texas vs. Texas A&M.
The reactions to the "Bluebonnet Battle" were...mixed, to say the least.
A lot of fans quickly questioned what happened to the "Revivalry," the unofficial name given to the TCU-Baylor games, especially in recent years, as the two programs have frequently had epic battles.
Of course, this might not be the best year for new rivalry names. Neither fanbase is in the best of moods.
TCU is 4-6 and coming off a 29-26 loss to Texas. And the down year is following last year's magical run to the College Football Playoff National Championship Game.
Baylor is also struggling, at 3-7, with three straight losses. With just two games left in the season, the Bears have been eliminated from bowl eligibility.
But, in any case, they still have something to play for now, whether fans like the rivalry name or not.
