Ever had a job so hard that everything about it seems impossible? Where by the second week you’re just hanging on by your fingernails?
Well that’s me and this whole homeschooling thing.
I know how to multiply and divide.
But I can’t figure out how to teach it to my third grader on whatever 13 different apps her assignments come from, while also helping my first grader read and avoid parking my 4-year old in front of a TV for six hours.
Every day I look forward to the sweet sound of a Zoom call, the start of our newsroom afternoon meeting.
It’s like the voice of God telling me, “You survived another day.”
And for a few minutes it blinds me to the soul crushing reality that I’ll get up tomorrow and do it again …and then again …and then again.
I can see the dawning realization in my daughter’s eyes: This mythical being, her Dad, doesn’t know anything and he’s no help at all.
The kids want to go back to school. And I know our teachers miss their students.
If this was a love story, we’d be the audience desperately rooting for this perfect pair to get back together.
