Kendra Hatcher's sister tearfully testified about the moment she learned her baby sister had been murdered.
"When I heard she had been murdered, I couldn't imagine who would hurt her. No one who knew Kendra disliked her,” said Ashley Turner.
Turner told the jury her sister loved people and volunteered for Habitat for Humanity and helped disadvantaged children. She was a good and decent person. “We didn't know that evil like this existed. Kendra had no idea she was being watched for months," she said.
Dr. Hatcher was shot in the head by Kristopher Love. Prosecutors said he was hired to shoot her by Brenda Delgado who wanted her dead because Kendra was dating her ex-boyfriend. The woman who drove the getaway car pleaded guilty and took a plea deal to testify against Love and Delgado. Crystal Cortes testified the three of them planned the murder for months.
Dr. Hatcher's best friend said her brother told her how Kendra had died. "He came into my office and said Kendra was murdered. I didn't believe it. I didn't believe him. I dialed her number and it went to voicemail, I dialed again, and it went to voicemail," she said.
Prosecutors want Love to get the death penalty. They said he is a dangerous criminal with a long rap sheet including robbery. He has tattoos of weapons, bullets and one across his chest that says life or death. And they said Love was trying to run a prostitution ring before and after he murdered Dr. Hatcher.
Prosecutors said while Kendra Hatcher was trying to make the world a better place, Love was victimizing people. And they said what he did forever destroyed all of those around her.
“We miss her a lot, “ said Turner.
Love faces the death penalty.
